I wasn't sure the author could pull this off due to the age difference in the characters...correction, not the age difference, but more the age of Emma and Rye when they are first attracted to each other. I was squirming a bit in the beginning, but as the story progressed I felt more comfortable with the situation and appreciated the direction that the story took. When Emma and Rye finally become intimate with one another, their waiting, and especially Rye's reluctance and restraint, truly had me believing the possibility of this working. It wasn't just a young girl's infatuation, or an older man's overactive libido...these two truly loved each other and I could accept it by the end of the story...I was actually rooting for them and willing time to move forward! I wanted Emma to be old enough for Rye. Emma had an especially difficult childhood, so she had at least 10 years maturity on most girls her age, and Rye was handed a raw deal in his teens and never experienced true love. Plus, once Rye reveals to Emma what his dating life was like...what he didn't do...while Emma was off experiencing college life, it made me a believer. You knew as the reader, in your heart, that Rye's heart belonged to Emma and that he was truly head over heels in love with her, and it made me fall in love with him even more!
Emma is also the adopted daughter of Sam and Rachael from Twelve Days, and Rye is Sam's brother. Sticky situation, but somehow it worked and I was okay with it all.
While some readers might not find these circumstances acceptable, I thought the author did a great job of removing the 'ick' factor and wrote a beautiful love story.

Ms. Hill touched a delicate subject of an older man & younger woman. She wrote it well.
The story was beautiful! Rye and Emma had rough beginnings, but each looked at life differently. Rye was a man with a difficult past and was against the world. Emma was just the person who was able to touch his heart and give Rye hope.
This is worth the read!
When a sexy, protective stranger shows up on her doorstep, Emma McRae doesn't give a thought to falling in love with him. But she does just that—falls hard and fast, and for the first time in her life.
Then, she discovers his secrets.
Rye is a man with an ugly past. He didn't come to the pretty town of Baxter, Ohio, looking for a woman. But there she was; pretty and sweet, and the kind of woman he'd always wanted, but never dreamed he could have. Emma's innocent vulnerability tugs at Rye's weary heart, and the sizzling sexual pull between them can't be ignored.
Her "baggage" in the form of an ex- and her background, lead the reader who knows....to feel for her.
Definitely will read all of the McRae Series.
This was a book recommendation from the romance forum and I'm glad I got it. First time to read a book by Teresa Hill. I started reading this so I could fall asleep, instead I had to keep reading. This is a May-December romance and both H(33) & h(18) have a lot of baggage. Eventually, H settles down and becomes a part of family/community and h always knew she wanted H but she had to do what a young woman had to do before settling down. But years and distance didn't stop what they felt about each other, in the end, love prevails.
I bought this story because it was listed on a book thread of celibate heroes and I am glad that I did. The story was entertaining. I was never bored while reading it and I read it without taking a break. The hero Rhy's was not a cookie cutter romance hero and I liked the fact that he wasn't a lot. It made him intersting. Both he and he heroine were likable and down to earth people. I felt sorry for the heroine and mad at the hero when he pushed her away for 2 years and date OW during that time. If he slept with them then I would have stooped reading the story because the heroine never had smex with anyone else. There is a HFN.
Edge of Heaven is book 2 of the McRae series. It is a very compelling and unusual romance. Rye appears looking for Sam McRae, who isn't home at the time. Even though Emma is alone, she treats him as a friend and offers him a place to stay until Sam returns. There are a lot of secrets and twists which keep the story going. I just loved this family and look forward to reading more of the series. I highly recommend it.
This book is a continuation of the McRae family, namely Emma's story. She is the oldest daughter of Sam and Rachael McRae who considered herself to always be the responsible one as she had to take care of her younger brother and sister some years ago before they were adopted by Sam and Rachael. She returns home from a college break really escaping an abusive relationship with a college boyfriend where she meets Sam's long lost brother Rye aka Robbie. At first Emma is under the impression that Rye is a friend possibly looking for work from Sam. But Rye has been searching for his long lost brother. The attraction is immediate even though later on its revealed the connection Rye has to Sam, as well as how old Emma really is. Rye and Emma's relationship is not an easy one as they both have dark pasts and emotional scars as well as the age differences and family connections to overcome. This was an excellent read!!
I loved this novel! This was the first Teresa Hill novel I had read. I have reread it several times. I finally decided to write a review after reading the highly critical reviews of the McRae series. The romance is touching, the plot well thought out and the main characters well developed. Yes, there is sex and there should be because that is part of the attraction between the characters. Ms. Hills intimate scenes are very tasteful and well written and they flow seamlessly with the storyline. So, I hope the sex scenes stay were they are appropriate and those who like romance novels without them seem doomed to forever view sex as something negative, outside of loving relationships and not fit for stories that involve family and faith when that is exactly where it belongs.
