Imogen Rockford is third in line to become head of Rockford Manor as a Duchess but the odds of that even happening are slim to none. When a typical family vacation turns tragic Imogen is forced to return home to live with her guardians at only just ten years old. It’s been seven years since Imogen has had contact with her grandfather and her cousin but when she receives a notice that her guardians try to avoid she risks upsetting them to find out what is happening. What Imogen learns is that her grandfather has passed and her cousin is also gone leaving her the heir of Wickersham. Knowing her father would want her to take over if the time came Imogen agree’s to return to England.

Imogen has a lot to learn now that she’s become the Duchess of her family home, and learning just how who to bow to will be just the start. Arriving at Wickersham Imogen is pulled into forgotten memories, strange occurrences and her long time crush on Sebastian. Imogen digs deeper into the past learning that her distant relative had the same ability of being able to control the elements. Maybe her cousin didn’t have an accident after all but she was murdered and it’s up to Imogen to figure out the truth but at what cost? Will the guy she’s crushed after her whole life be connected to her cousin’s death?

I liked Imogen she’s an interesting character she’s living the life her cousin should be with the mystery of her own life shifting around her. I liked that she is honorable accepting her fate as a Duchess instead of running from it like her guardians wanted her to. I wasn’t sure how I felt about her maid Maisie because at first I felt sorry for her having to grow up watching two girls have the life I’m sure she wanted. Fast forward 7 years she’s still around the manor but she has some issues. I also didn’t trust Sebastian at first but he quickly grew on me proving he would support Imogen through it all.

I’ve had this one sitting on my bookshelf since it came out. I’m in love with the stunning cover it’s just gorgeous one of my favorite covers. I suggested it to my little bookclub based on the cover and the promise of a mystery. I found the story interesting, but while it does have paranormal elements which I love we just didn’t get enough of what was really going on with Imogen’s elemental abilities. I wish that the story had more of the paranormal elements. However the twist at the end didn’t see it coming and I loved it finding that it worked out better than I would have expected. Suspicion is a fast paced story that is easy to get lost in Imogen’s world as she starts her new journey as a Duchess. I would love to see more of the story because I just don’t feel it was over yet so maybe we will see another book in the future. Overall I enjoyed it found the characters easy to connect with and the concept captivating. This is my first book by the author but I really enjoyed her writing style. Looking forward to checking out her other books and fingers crossed for another book.

Suspicion Alexandra Monir Books Reviews

Cross the Princess Diaries with Du Maurier's Rebecca, dumb it all down a tad, and throw in some Sabrina the Teen-Aged Witch, and you get this. A better writer could have balanced this and improved characterization, but it was a good romp for $1 on .
Generally, it’s not my cup of tea since I like fantasy to dominate the books I read. Yet, I did what readers should never do I judged the book by its cover. Isn’t it hypnotizing?

The book follows Imogen Rockford as she travels from her home in New York to the family estate in England for Summer vacation. Every year she looks forward to visiting that magical place with its interesting history, gorgeous gardens, and a handsome next door neighbor named Sebastian. (Who wouldn’t want to visit? I’d never want to leave!)

Imogen was an okay character. She started out as a girl who liked to runaway from her problems instead of face them, but life is tricky. The character would have been better if she volunteered to face her problems. With the death of her family members and the fate of a whole town riding on her decision, circumstance forced Imogen to face the problems she left. This experience did shape the character into a better person, but it was the whole “forced” part that kept her from being a stellar character.

Furthermore, she had a hard time seeing Sebastian in the act of dating her cousin and she had the opportunity to say something to her cousin. At one point, the cousin asked Imogen if it was fine that she was dating Sebastian. Not that the cousin would stop dating him if Imogen had said something, but the opportunity to voice an objection was there. Imogen obviously lacks gumption, which she never gains throughout the book.

Sebastian was an average man with an above average attitude when it came to women. He’s not a big talker about his feelings and needs to learn to better communicate with a trusted friend like Imogen (or in his case, a love interest). Plus, he tends to irrationally lash out emotionally before thinking. His saving grace was his complete acceptance of Imogen as a kid and as a young adult. That’s about the only impressive thing. Otherwise, he felt more like an ornament than a character.

Without the mystery aspect of the book, I wouldn’t have continued reading past the obligatory three chapters I give every book. Imogen and Sebastian were lackluster, the cousin was a paranoid crazy person. All characters were on the verge of being two dimensional.

I think this is my first shoulder shrug book. If there’s nothing else to read and you want to kill some time, borrow this from the library or get the e-book version when it’s on a $1 sale.
Fantastic mystery!

I was as excited about this book when it came out as I was about Alexandra Monir’s Timeless series. The setting of the English manor and all the history is interesting enough, but with the added mystery, becomes even more intriguing. From the onset, one is captivated by the story of Imogen, her family secrets, and her special, supernatural abilities. The author is able to give us just the right amount of clues and unveil just the right amount of information that we are blown away by the final unpredictable twists and turns of the unraveling mystery. The world she creates is so real and the characters so endearing that I just didn’t want to leave them.

I can’t wait to see what great story the author comes up with next!
