The Nightlife: New York is a fun addition to the vampire erotic genre. Although nothing about the vampires is something we hadn't seen before, I did like the combination of features that the author used. When Aaron gets shot one night, Michelle finds him and brings him back to her apartment. Aaron thinks she's his guardian angel, but really she's a vampire, and the only way to save his life is to turn him. This forges an unbreakable bond between them, one that Aaron doesn't really understand the full extent of until Michelle begins to abuse it.

I hated Michelle! She's arrogant and controlling, but she was a lot of fun to hate! She's lonely so she's happy to have Aaron in her life now, but she does take advantage of the power she has over him. About halfway through the book, I wished that I had vampire speed and strength so that I could whisk him away from her! Aaron believes he loves her, even when he feels betrayed by her. Their relationship was complicated and interesting.

There was also a side plot involving some crooked cops who are after Michelle. I felt like this plot was really unnecessary and took away from pages that could have been spent on Michelle and Aaron's dysfunctional relationship and other more interesting points. I definitely would have liked to see more of the "addiction" that vampires can cause when they drink from a human for too long. This could have brought in some more fun and sexy scenes. Plus I just love seeing vampire mythology at work!

Overall, I did like this book, even the awfulness that is Michelle. Unfortunately, I had to drop a star for that ending. I was highly disturbed and grossed out. That scene was not needed at all. I feel like it was thrown in for shock value. Michelle could have done something else to teach Delia a lesson, anything but what she did. I am curious to see what Las Vegas holds for Aaron and Michelle though.

Travis writes easy to read, fun, entertaining books. He serves them up again and again filled with fantasy offered with a delicious serving of erotica. Sometimes dark and disturbing and always leaving the reader panting for the next in the series.

I am looking forward to reading Nightlife Moscow. You won't be disappointed.
Aaron is a young, naive man working in NYC. He shares an apartment with his childhood friend, Kyle, and moons over the breakup of his relationship with cold-hearted Delia. One night on his way home from work Aaron encounters a beautiful woman being roughed-up by two undercover cops--they think she's a prostitute and want to shake her down for some cash.

When Aaron steps in to defend her, he's shot point blank. The woman, Michelle, collects his body and--out of guilt--does something she promised herself she would never do--she turns him into a vampire, like herself. Now, Michelle must train and care for her subservient vamp, and teach Aaron the way to live in the Nightlife.

Aaron is at first overwhelmed by Michelle, and his transition to vampire-life. He's never had more (or better) sex, and to be strong, virile and more attractive? Tended by a gorgeous master? Oh, and working as an escort where one of his bites thoroughly satisfies his wealthy clientele? Aaron's not sad to step into his new life.

He leaves behind a newly-disgruntled Delia, an envious Kyle and two police officers who want revenge for the butt-kicking Michelle unleashed before they shot Aaron. They are hot on Aaron's tail, and easily led to Michelle due to his remaining connections to humans. Rescuing Michelle awakens a new bloodlust within Aaron that terrifies Michelle, but the couple settle all scores and find completeness and love with their nearly invincible unit.

This is a well-written, fast-paced adventure in adult vampire fiction. Would have liked a bit more proof reading--some typos, homophone issues irked me because I'm a stickler for grammar.... There were some smexytimes, but nothing TOO steamy. I had wished for a bit more detail, in truth. Still, it's a fun contemporary adult paranormal that readers will breeze through.
Hot, sexy and slightly twisted vampires, yep sold.
